Alimak was founded in 1948 and from the early 50's manufactured rope driven construction men and materials hoists.
In 1962 we pioneered the revolutionary rack and pinion drive system that, within a few years, helped establish ourselves as the world's leading specialist in this technology. Today, our activities are concentrated on the design, manufacture and distribution of rack and pinion driven construction hoists, special purpose and goods passenger lifts and mast climbing work platforms. We also manufacture a range of equipment suitable for applications in underground mining, civil engineering and hydro-electric power generation.
Construction Hoists
Our construction hoists have been used at many of the most prestigious high rise projects around the world. Projects such as Raffles City Hotel in Singapore, the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank, the T & C Tower in Taiwan and the Torre Picasso Building in Madrid. We also offer a range of light-weight hoists which are specially adapted for use on low rise buildings.
Our hoists have been used on most of the world's major bridge projects: The Lille Belt, Faro-Falster and Great Belt Bridges in Denmark; the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Florida; the Honshu-Shikoku Bridge in Japan; the Glebe Bridge in Sydney; the Humber and Second Severn Crossing Bridges in the U.K., and at the Pont de Normandie in France.
Special Purpose Lifts
These lifts are frequently installed where there is a need to transport service personnel. The lifts can also be tailor made to suit customer requirements.
Goods Passenger Lifts
Within our range of permanent lifts is a choice of goods passenger lifts designed for installation in industries, warehouses and storage facilities etc. where capacities of several tonnes are often specified.
Offshore Lifts
Our rack and pinion drive system has been found to be ideal for offshore applications where space is at a premium, because the lift can be installed without a machine room. This is made possible by the fact that the motors and electrical equipment Ex-protected type are carried on top of the car and so only a minimum of overhead space is required and no enclosed hoistway. These features have enabled us to be particularly successful in this field since the mid 70's.
Mast Climbing Work Platforms
Our Mast Climbing Work Platforms (MCWP) operate on the same type of mast as the heavy duty construction hoists, hence maximising utilisation of this type of equipment.
Underground Equipment
We began offering a mechanised method of raising shafts in the mid 50's with the introduction of the Raise Climber System. This was rapidly accepted and, today, it is a world wide method for raising shafts.
